Are you someone who is experiencing depression? Has it been challenging to find the motivation to complete daily tasks, lack of enjoyment in activities you once enjoyed, low energy, sleeping too much or too little, increased or decreased appetite, isolating yourself from friends or family members? Or maybe you are experiencing anxiety (or both)? Has it become difficult to cope with anxious thoughts and feelings, increased avoidance of places, people, or things? Has this excessive worry begun to interfere with daily activities?
Has it become difficult to cope with the trauma that you have experienced in the past or present? Have you been diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)? Or maybe you are experiencing conflict in your relationship? Are you worried about your child and how they are coping with school, connecting with peers, or managing difficult life events?
It is possible to have a significant and positive, long-standing impact on mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, and grief and loss issues, to name a few. Would you like to feel like you have more energy to engage in those activities that once brought you joy and fulfillment, or feel more connected to your spouse or child? Research shows that those who experience positive mental health also experience a greater sense of well-being, feelings of happiness, and increased self-esteem and ability to cope with life stressors (WHO, 2004a).
I have experience working with couples, individuals, and children in the public sector of the mental health field in schools, agencies, not for profits, and working with northern Aboriginal Reserves across Canada. I also have experience working in the private sector of mental health, offering services through workplace Family Assistance Programs (FAP), insurance companies, and serving frontline professionals such as police, military, paramedics, and firefighters. I have a Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in Clinical therapy. I am also certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) through the University of Calgary, as well as certification in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Trauma from the Centre for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety through the University of Pennsylvania.
